What 925 means
Sterling silver is an alloy that contains 92.5% pure silver. The rest is usually copper, which adds strength. The "925" stamp is the standard mark of this alloy. Pure silver is too soft for most jewelry, which is why sterling is the common choice.
Finishes: polish, rhodium, black rhodium and gold plating
Silver can be finished in several ways. High polish gives a bright, classic look. Rhodium plating adds a white, reflective surface and helps resist tarnish. Black rhodium creates a dark, oxidized-style appearance, popular in men's collections. Gold plating over silver gives a gold look at a lower cost.
