How to Choose a Jewelry Contract Manufacturer in Turkey

Engraved gold signet ring design for contract jewelry manufacturing in Istanbul

Turkey, and Istanbul in particular, has been one of the world's jewelry production centres for centuries. The Grand Bazaar (Kapalıçarşı) and the workshops around it still form a dense network of casters, setters, polishers and platers. For a brand looking for a jewelry contract manufacturer, that density is an advantage: skilled hands, fast access to materials and a long tradition of gold work. It also means there are many options, and they are not all the same.

This guide explains what contract jewelry manufacturing involves, which questions to ask, and how to compare manufacturers in Turkey before you place your first order. We write it from the workshop side: OSKA Fine Jewelry has worked in the Grand Bazaar since 2005.

What a jewelry contract manufacturer actually does

In contract jewelry manufacturing, the design and the brand belong to you; the manufacturer turns your design into a production-ready model and produces it under your name. Three related models are common:

  • OEM / contract manufacturing: you supply the design, the manufacturer produces it exactly.
  • ODM: you supply the idea, the manufacturer develops the design with you.
  • Private label: you choose from the manufacturer's existing production-ready models and sell them under your brand.

A good partner can do all three, so you can start with private label and move to your own designs later. See our Jewelry Contract Manufacturer in Istanbul page for how we work.

Step 1: Check the materials they really work with

Before anything else, make sure the manufacturer works daily with the materials your collection needs.

Gold

Ask which karats they cast routinely: 9K, 10K, 14K and 18K, and which colours (yellow, white, rose). Markets differ: 14K and 18K dominate many fine jewelry segments, while 9K and 10K are common in some export markets. A manufacturer who can produce the same model in several karats gives you room to grow. More detail: gold jewelry manufacturing in Istanbul.

Natural and lab-grown diamonds

Stone setting is where workshops differ most. Ask which setting techniques they handle in-house: prong, pavé, channel, bezel. If you plan to use lab-grown diamonds, ask how they source stones to your size, colour and clarity range, and whether they can work with stones you supply. Our lab-grown diamond manufacturing guide covers this in depth.

925 sterling silver

Silver collections usually need plating: white rhodium, gold plating or black rhodium. Ask how plating colour is kept consistent across a collection and across re-orders.

Step 2: Understand the production process

A reliable contract manufacturer follows a clear sequence. Ours is:

  1. Design: your sketch, photo, CAD file or sample is reviewed for manufacturability; karat, stones, dimensions, target weight and logo placement are fixed.
  2. Mould: a production mould is made so every piece matches.
  3. Sample: a sample is produced from the mould for your approval.
  4. Production: casting, assembly, stone setting, plating, polishing and inspection are done to the approved sample.

Be cautious with any supplier who wants to skip the sample stage for a new model. The sample is the reference that protects both sides.

Step 3: Get the commercial terms in writing

Contract jewelry manufacturing terms vary between workshops. Ask for these points clearly in the quote:

  • Minimum order: many gold workshops calculate it by weight rather than by piece count. At OSKA, the minimum production order is at least 1 kg; the number of pieces depends on the weight of each model.
  • Sample fee: is it charged, and is it deducted from the order? Our samples are charged and deducted if the sample turns into an order.
  • Mould fee: for new models, is there a mould fee and is it credited? Ours is deducted from the order.
  • Payment: a deposit at order confirmation and the balance on delivery is a common, balanced structure, and it is the one we use.
  • Branding: can your logo be applied on the piece itself? It should be planned at the design stage.

Step 4: Look at in-house capability

Many "manufacturers" are actually traders who subcontract every step. That is not always bad, but it makes quality and timing harder to control. Ask which steps happen in their own workshop. When casting, setting, plating and finishing are under one roof, problems are found and fixed faster, and finishes such as black rhodium plating stay consistent from piece to piece.

Step 5: Ask about production-ready models

If you need to launch quickly, ask whether the manufacturer has designs that already have moulds and finished production preparation. These shorten the path from idea to first order. Our unisex collections Panther, ALVEO and MELIS are production-ready and can be made in gold, with lab-grown diamonds or in 925 silver under your brand.

Step 6: Test communication

Your manufacturer will be one of your most frequent contacts. Before you commit, notice how quickly and clearly they answer, whether they ask the right technical questions about your design, and whether quotes are specific to your project rather than generic.

Red flags to watch for

  • No sample stage for a new design
  • Vague or verbal-only terms on minimum order, samples and moulds
  • Unclear information about karat or stone type
  • Unwillingness to explain which steps are done in-house

Frequently asked questions

Why choose a jewelry contract manufacturer in Turkey?

Istanbul combines a long gold-working tradition with a concentrated network of specialist workshops, which makes it practical for brands that need gold, diamond and silver production in one place.

What is a typical minimum order?

It varies by workshop. At OSKA it is at least 1 kg per production order, with the piece count depending on model weight.

Can I start with a small test collection?

You can begin with samples of your key models, approve them, then move to production at the minimum order. Starting from production-ready models also reduces set-up work.

Can the manufacturer put my logo on the jewelry?

Yes. Your logo is applied on the piece, and its position is planned with the model.

Do you produce lab-grown diamond jewelry?

Yes, in 9K–18K gold and in 925 silver. See lab-grown diamond jewelry manufacturing.
